OpenAI tightens ChatGPT limits on mass-attack details and weapons information for teens
OpenAI said Oct. 30 it will restrict how ChatGPT answers questions about past mass attacks and their perpetrators for all users, including the weapons used and how they were obtained, and will further limit practical information about weapons and security systems for users it places in its under-18 experience, even when there is no sign of violent intent. The company said ChatGPT will be able to end chats that show someone fixating on seriously harming another person and may temporarily pause accounts after repeated endings, that the changes roll out over the next few weeks, and that it made more than 200 referrals to law enforcement in the third quarter of 2026. It also committed to a Community Safety Report, with the first edition due in early 2027 covering the second half of 2026.
