Tazewell County, Illinois, adopts nine-month data center moratorium
The Tazewell County Board in Illinois unanimously approved a nine-month moratorium on data centers this week on the recommendation of its Land Use Committee, giving the county time to write data center regulations, WEEK 25 News reported Oct. 30. During the pause the county will evaluate zoning districts and standards covering setbacks, noise, lighting, energy and water consumption, cooling systems, backup power generation, battery storage and environmental impacts, among others, per the moratorium’s text. It runs until July 28, 2027, unless the board repeals or modifies it earlier.

About the art. Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis). Endangered, US Endangered Species Act (listed 1967). People disturbing the caves where it hibernates, loss of its summer habitat, pesticides and, most recently, white-nose syndrome have halved its numbers since it was listed, per the US Fish and Wildlife Service. We run an endangered species from the story's region on every data center story; the animal is not part of this story unless the story says so. Why we do this.
