Pennsylvania law requires mandated reporters to report AI deepfakes of children
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro signed House Bill 2474 on Oct. 22, requiring mandated reporters, the people who work with children in schools, health care and sports, to report child-on-child abuse including hazing, the unlawful dissemination of intimate images and sexually explicit AI-generated deepfakes, CBS 21 reported; the bill passed the state House and Senate unanimously and takes effect in 90 days. Sponsor Rep. Nikki Rivera introduced it after a case at Lancaster Country Day School, where officials knew students were creating explicit deepfakes of classmates but did not notify law enforcement, and the deepfakes continued for months until victims’ parents did, per the Pennsylvania Capital-Star. The students responsible were adjudicated delinquent after admitting to 59 felony counts of child sexual abuse and other offenses, the Capital-Star reported.
