Switch discloses it will own behind-the-meter gas plant at Tahoe Reno Industrial Center
Data center operator Switch disclosed in an October filing with the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada that it is the intended off-taker and “ultimate owner” of a proposed 510-megawatt natural gas plant on about 20 acres at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center in Storey County, first filed in June by Nexus Fulcrum LLC, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. According to filings, the plant would run nine gas turbines, be built from the first quarter of 2027 through 2029, and use 145 acre-feet (about 47 million gallons) of water a year once operating. It is a behind-the-meter plant, built to power data centers directly rather than wait in the utility’s queue; residents pushed back at a commission hearing Wednesday, and one urged full environmental reviews.
