ESA releases open Earth Virtual Expert AI model for Earth observation questions

The European Space Agency has released Earth Virtual Expert (EVE), a large language model built by ESA Φ-lab with Pi School, Mistral and Imperative Space that answers questions about Earth observation and Earth science, ESA said. EVE draws on ESA, NASA and Copernicus sources and peer-reviewed research through a collaboration with Wiley, retrieves recent articles when it answers, and uses an “LLM-as-a-judge” step that reviews responses so unsupported content can be revised or filtered. ESA said the system is live for all users and that the model, code, curated training datasets and benchmarks are public on Hugging Face and GitHub.
